恭喜發財 "Kung Hei Fat Choi"
Chinese New Year, also known as "Lunar New Year," is the most important holiday in China. It is a traditional festival that is celebrated between late January and mid-February with various activities that symbolize family, luck, and new beginnings. Now, the question is, why is it celebrated by Filipinos?
Filipinos celebrate Chinese New Year mainly due to the tradition and cultural influence of China in the Philippines. These include eating Chinese foods and consulting Feng Shui experts for good luck. Activities such as dragon and lion dances, exchanging red envelopes, parades, and colorful fireworks are the main things they always do when celebrating Chinese New Year. Celebrating this festival is also a way to show gratitude for their contributions to our community. In addition, Filipinos are also known for being family-oriented, which is exactly the same as the Chinese tradition of family reunions and gatherings.
